Since 1923

It is an honor to welcome you to this mansion that not only holds a history, but also a soul. Mansión Papilio is an architectural jewel more than a hundred years old, protected by the National Institute of Anthropology and History for its heritage value. Over time, it has worked with dedication and respect to preserve each of its elements: from the original wood floors and centuries-old marble, to the hand-forged ironwork and the collection of antique pieces that inhabit its halls. The mansion was built by a French family who, upon emigrating to Mexico, wanted to bring a piece of their homeland with them. To do so, they hired an architect from their country, who designed this elegant residence as a tribute to the French architecture of the time. Over the years, the story took a romantic turn. It is said that the mansion was inhabited by Enrique Papilio, a man deeply in love with a woman to whom he never dared to confess his love. From that silenced love was born the “Tree of Keys”, a ritual that honors the value of expressing what we feel, so that no love remains in silence. We invite you to learn more about this ritual during your stay. Today, Enrique Papilio II, your host, gives you the warmest welcome. He is delighted to open the doors of this mansion and share with you the work of years dedicated to its restoration and conservation, so that you can live here not only a stay, but an experience.
Mansion Papilio is also home to majestic peacocks, a friendly cat named Picasso -who arrived injured and ended up adopting us- and a giant tortoise, whose calm gait and wise gaze have undoubtedly made him the true silent chronicler of the mansion. With more than half a century behind him, our tortoise has witnessed the two generations of the Papilio family: from the reflective walks of Enrique Papilio among the gardens, to the sleepless nights of Enrique Papilio II supervising the restoration. No one knows how many loves he has seen pass by (nor how many escape attempts he has thwarted at a slow but steady pace). But there she is, every day, like a stoic guardian of the stories that have been lived here… and of those yet to be written.
